David Montgomery, in the Washington Post, has a delightful article about the symbolic planting that took place Tuesday at DEA headquarters by industrial hemp advocates.

The group included David Bronner of Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps, North Dakota farmer Wayne Hauge, and 73-year-old Will Allen, a farmer from Vermont. VoteHemp staff were there as well.

A total of six were arrested for trespassing and will have hearings this week. The expected fine is $240.

The DEA had nothing to say.

Phillip Smith has detailed coverage of this protest, including video, over at Stop the Drug War.

    Excellent!

    Whoo Hoo!

Sharp threads, the coolest car, and chrome plated shovels.

    Way to go!

    I love it.

  2. Hope says:

Somewhere I read that someone asked the DEA if they were going to hang those lovely shovels in the DEA Museum display. I think the agent may have allowed as to ‘Probably not’.

    :0)

  3. i applaud this peaceful protest. However, with some simple networking it could have been much much bigger. If you had 100 or even 1000 people there, it would probably have made an even bigger statement. I sure wish I could have joined in. Ive never been arrested before but I would be extremely proud to be arrested for that!

Ya I seen this and asked myself.”Why didnt they network and get more people involved in the seed planting, you know, make bigger statement?” Any way, so far as the article said ,they are being charged for trespassing. No big deal.

Since the marijuana we want has the same fibers that industrial hemp has, think how much a farmer could make still selling the stalks, and the weed. They shoulda planted bubble gum.

  6. BluOx says:

What would the DEA have to say, but….it’s not your

fathers hemp, it’s stronger and it’s more dangerous?

  7. R.O.E. says:

The thing that drives me nuts about Industrial hemp is this….

Here we are using corn to make fuel, this has driven food prices up. We could use hemp based fuels instead, reduce food prices, start new jobs ect ect. What do we do instead? Keep it illegal. Some times I think people go out of their way to make life more difficult…mostly out of fear or greed.
