    May Day is the commemoration of the Chicago Haymarket Massacre, and it is a sad thing that it is observed everywhere in the world BUT the country where it occurred. If you get a forty hour work week with two days off a week, if you have holidays for religious observance, if you have sick days, if you have a pension, or retirement, or healthcare, my advice is to take five fucking minutes and thank the Unions.

    It is Mexico’s and our drug czars contention that the majority of deaths in Mexico are deaths of criminals,,they must have computer chips installed in all the drug traffickers so they can distinguish between an innocent in the wrong place at the wrong time from the criminals because from the pictures I have seen just show dead people without criminal tattooed on their foreheads.

      Wow.

      The 24-year old UCSD engineering student was left in the cell for five days without food or water, seemingly forgotten by the federal authorities who detained him.

      He was one of seven people detained after a Drug Enforcement Administration ecstasy raid in University City on April 21, according to a DEA statement.

      A law enforcement source told NBC 7 that the student was handcuffed and held in a room no larger than the average bathroom.

      Sources close to the student say he nearly died of kidney failure in Sharp hospital due to the dehydration he experienced. He was treated for several days and released.

      “You talk about whether they might have done it intentionally. No way, because somebody’s career is done over this,” added Kirby.

      So the argument is not that DEA agents wouldn’t intentionally torture another human being because they’re not monsters? It’s that they wouldn’t intentionally jeopardize their jobs?… Yeah, that’s probably the right argument to make.

    OT – Here are some excerpts from Gil’s remarks today at a Center for American Progress event:

    “Over the last few years, this public debate on drug policy has lurched between two extreme views. Let me characterize those two views for you: On the one side we have very vocal, organized, well-funded advocates who insist drug legalization is a silver bullet for addressing our nation’s drug problem. On the other side of the debate we have the law enforcement-only war-on-drugs approach. If only we could spend more on prisons and increase arrests and seizures of drugs, the drug problem would just go away.
    …
    The Obama administration believes neither of these approaches is humane, compassionate, realistic, and most importantly, they are not grounded in science. The approaches also do not acknowledge the complexity of our nation’s drug problem, or reflect the science of the last two decades. That’s why two weeks ago we released the national drug control policy, and it pursues a third way to drug control. It’s progressive, it’s innovative, it’s evidence-based and it presents what we believe to be the way ahead for the drug policy.”

    DRINK! On second thought, a drinking game based on drug warrior speeches is probably a good way to end up in the hospital. You might want to make that a toking game instead. Safety first.
