New DEA Chief: ‘Heroin Is Clearly More Dangerous Than Marijuana’
The new Drug Enforcement Administration chief has finally made it clear: Marijuana is safer than heroin.
DEA head Chuck Rosenberg told reporters Wednesday morning at the administration’s headquarters that “heroin is clearly more dangerous than marijuana,” clarifying a less definitive statement he made last week, when he said marijuana is “probably not” as dangerous as heroin. Rosenberg said cannabis is still “harmful and dangerous,” but that his original remarks should have been clearer. […]
The statement lines up with the science that has long been clear on the plant being one of the least dangerous recreationally used drugs. And while Rosenberg’s comments may initially seem benign, they represent a significant shift in the point of view of an agency that continues to classify marijuana as one of the “most dangerous” drugs, alongside heroin and LSD.
Nice to know that the head of the DEA is starting to learn the basics, even though he clearly has a long way to go.
This would be like the head of NASA finally admitting that astrology is not the same as astronomy.
It must be tough on the DEA budget and image that they are losing the poster child of their $7 trillion dollar drug war spending spree,,,for the first time in nearly 5 decades the DEA is facing a cut in funding,,and that is just the initial incision,,,but the blood is in the water for sure now and true bureaucrat brothers in the other letter gangs will show the American public the federal government also has a cannibalism problem.

ive never actually, in all my years, seen the prohibitionists actively use any methods full throttle that didn’t usually just involve their simple, rehashed ideology since prohibition began. The messages are always the same, right? “Drugs are evil” “Drug users are evil” etc. etc. etc. However, if they start changing tactics, well, if I may, one of the keys to Sun Tzu’s the Art of War is to anticipate and manipulate change. Honestly it would be very wise of them to “divide & conquer”. If they want to attempt to seperate and create divisions in the drug reform community by putting pot enthusiasts against everybody else, the reform world would splinter. It would be very bad. Unfortunately, and Ethan Nadelman has acknowledged this himself many times, there are far too many that are way too ready to just say “screw it” and turn on the rest of the reform world as long as they get their way with pot.
I say to each his own, I say we’re in this together and I say we have to legalize all drugs so we can better control all drugs, eliminate homelessness, crime etc (by legalizing).
Case in point: we all know I am everyday user of heroin. I can remember one time after setting up my cardboard bed here on the streets of Manhattan a fellow compatriot sitting against the wall near me (on Great Jones or Bond St). He was smoking what I thought was just a cigarette. He handed it to me I took a few drags, something didnt taste right and about 15 seconds later I thought I was dying, I was hearing voices and it was an 8 hour experience from hell that honestly, had I not had the presence of mind to force myself to just lay down and stay layed down and wait it out, had I actually tried to go anywhere and do anything who knows what horrible thing would have happened to someone or myself (because, for the first like hour or two I had no freaking idea what the hell was going on AT ALL. This all off of like, 2 small drags of a joint.) But then of course I’ll do enough diesel/dog food/poppy plant sweat or if youre of the German persuasian, Herr Owen, that would kill a normal person and 8 seconds after “lift off” I spring off the seat or toilet I’ve used, very quickly clean my arms up, start singing and dancing to myself before leaving and believing noone knows what the hell just went on in the bathroom stall. But there are those who absolutely abhorre it, hate it, want nothing to do with it, totally get that. Let’s not let them divide us, whats good for one may not be good for the other but the facts are that heroin has next to no toxicity and as has been said in the beautiful BBC documentary the truth about heroin, “can be taken for the entirity of someones life with little to no serious health risks.” we cant let them divide based on our drugs of choice, otherwise they will set our movement back 20 years, im telling you.
The new DEA Chief has just lost one of drug enforcement’s main methods of public offensiveness. On top of everything else involving the demise of the drug war, the sniffer dog era is drawing to a close:

That gives me an idea. What if we created a program where middle school students across the country visited local law enforcement groups and taught them about the dangers of drug prohibition? Using middle schoolers as educators might be a successful strategy for keeping the instruction on a level that cops could understand and relate to. And the Prohibition Is Gross, Seriously or “P.I.G.S.” program (as I’m proposing it be called) wouldn’t have to focus exclusively on drug prohibition. It could also teach cops strategies for resisting other kinds of human rights violations. Now I admit, I’m somewhat concerned that the program could actually have the perverse effect of making cops more curious about trying kinds of power abuses that they might otherwise have never even thought of. So it would be important to regularly assess the effectiveness of the curriculum to keep it evidence-based.
A school system that fostered DARE for 30 years??? They’ve been sucking the Devil’s Teat for so long that’s why DARE gets mentioned. Eighties nostalgia.
It also needs a rehab program for the bullies hired by cities and state that they have hired to do this crap.
The quickest way to end abuse of power from law enforcement is remove ANY ability they have of funding themselves.
Law enforcement is a necessary evil and should never be turned into a source of revenue.

The Ohio Legislature is not trying to prevent the establishment of an oligopoly, they’re trying to play the voters for chumps with their proposed Ohio Initiated Monopolies Amendment, Issue 2
Presuming that both proposed Amendments are approved by the voters on Election Day, this controversy is going to the Ohio Supreme Court. But at least it’s not going to take years to get there.
So while everyone is busy bitching and moaning about the proposed oligopoly the Ohio Legislature is trying to render the will of the voters meaningless. For the life of me I can’t even imagine that the Ohio Initiated Monopolies Amendment is legal. It most certainly is grossly unethical.

Police in La. spend 11 months and millions of dollars, use the resources of three agencies, including DEA, and assemble an entire task force to bust six teenagers with less than an ounce between them.
