The next states?

Christopher Ingraham helps provide data for future speculation — These are the states that could legalize pot next

I’ve got to say, I really don’t understand Wisconsin. In general. The state that has Madison and Mazo Beach has so many contradictions. I spent every summer there growing up, and love the beauty of the state (and the cheese and brats), but the politics baffle me.

Maybe it might have something to do with the fact that Maine has the most lenient laws (taken in their totality) of all 50 States. What really assured the defeat of California Prop 19 in 2010 was the Legislature decriminalizing petty possession during the campaign. IMO of course.

As far as Maine is concerned, here’s an article from just a few weeks ago about a man arrested for drunken driving, 63 plants, misdemeanor, $500 bond

I think that guy must be an unpleasant man. Although apparently his relatives are also none too bright for snitching him out about the plants. I wonder, how do you think they’ll feel if the authorities steal mom’s house? It isn’t as if she can use the “innocent owner” defense if the rest of the family knew what was going on. Idiots. The really sad part is that with an at least halfway competent lawyer he’ll probably beat the OUI.

  7. Nobody says:

So according to this map graph, Texas is more “progressive” than Maine?

    • Will says:

I’d say Maine has an easier path through the legislative process to change cannabis laws. At least Maine allows indirect initiative statues, Texas allows neither direct nor indirect initiative statues. And I’m guessing Maine also has more state legislators at least willing to entertain the idea of cannabis law reform. With few notable exceptions, the majority of Texas legislators are resolute against changing cannabis laws (the recently passed, very narrow CBD medical cannabis law being a minor aberration).

Governor Greg Abbott let Texas citizens know that no cannabis legalization will occur while he’s governor. He’s just blind and obstinate enough to hold that stance regardless of how Texas citizens feel about it.

      Here’s some interesting trivia about Governor Abbott. Before being elected governor last fall he was the Texas Attorney General. While AG, he once made a statement along the lines of, “The first thing I do every morning is sue the federal government”. He was literally at odds with Washington DC about everything. However, when he was running for governor he was asked by Texas NORML (as were all candidates) to explain his position regarding cannabis laws in Texas. A part of his statement read thusly;

“Although Eric Holder’s Justice Department has stated that it will not enforce federal law regarding marijuana in some states, federal law (which supersedes Texas law) still clearly prohibits the use of marijuana for either recreational or medical purposes.” [emphasis added, WB].

Looks like he conveniently slept in one morning and forgot to sue the fed vis-a-vis the Devil’s Lettuce. How convenient.

      • Will says:

Should read …indirect initiative *statutes*… (sheesh)

Thar-ya-go. Sums it right up. Only a way to easily ruin certain lives. Definitely a money grab. Profit ALEC maxcap deals are bringing more equality to include all lower income races, creed, sex, color and ethnanticity.

Let’s focus the efforts of law enforcement to REAL CRIMES.

Who is focusing them now? It is as obvious as the circumvention of the Constitution. They aren’t shy about what they do. They vote for the war on every level. In and out of Washington DC. Any group that spouses Hate is condemned unless it is the obvious drug worriers. Sabet and Calvina can lie and manipulate data with Norida. Hate, flat out and pure as hell can muster it. So what are we doing informing people who don’t want to know? Who side with the liars and sit on a razor fence pretending it isn’t so obvious. Lack of Medical studies are only in University Med Schools. Not one doctor is taught cannabis. So the catch 22 continues. Now it is time for the people to wake up. We are beyond a shadow of doubt. It is crystal clear. Those making a stand with the WoD Junkies or with the people.

I want for anyone who may think of writing some pablum talking about the ‘horrors’ of drug use to watch this video once more, and then realize this: this is NOT the first time these officers did this. Obviously, they were able to go back to doing their jobs after this little adventure.

Sa Nta A Na, probably show it at the Christmas parties. Arrogance will bring them down. The kid in the wheel chair they kicked is now a Poster boy exposing the vile sick attitudes toward those they are sworn to serve and protect. A big problem for fat pharms all around. But the numbers say that they are still making $Billions in spite of the deaths, that only seem to show up “off mainstream media”. The side effects of fat pharm powders should have people flocking to Ganja.

      Epileptic seizures: Aptiom (eslicarbazepine acetate)

Pot grows from the ground, and has NEVER harmed anyone.

Again, this is not a war and cannabis is not a plant. It is a business making a product to sell for tax dollars. All renewable resources are against free enterprise. Never harming anyone? What damn good is that to fat pharma or the tow truck driver? The car salesman selling replacements. Fossil fools from fat pharm plastic drainage tubes to high tech profits monitoring organ damage. Car crashes are 80% sober people, that’s pushed even harder than booze. More money. People get too sentimental.

I like to drink, but millions of people have been harmed by it.

Keep trying, practice, practice, practice. Those getting harmed are stimulating the economy. Stoners are making impressions in couch cushions and laughing harder than at the latest crappy movie out. No harm in that. What the hell, commies?

Those officers make a fair effort to cover up their activity,

You use that term pretty loosely. Orange County thugs kicking wheel chair bound victims nubs are no officers. Just adolescents in adult bodies carrying guns.

but they were certain in the fact that no one of their fraternity was going to rat them out.

Maybe they’ll police themselves, damn I know better than to write crazy shit after sipping coffee. Police Chief Joe McNamara used to inform the public about the thin blue line. Thick black and blue line. Courts go along with it. Politicians never wanna look weak being crime softies, just act it. We elect them. But most don’t get involved or are shunned into following or outcast as trouble makers. They’ve had the bases covered for many decades. We keep poking holes and more are seeing what they cover up. I’m just sampling some Gorilla Glue waiting on the big rip and the guts of WoD to tumble out onto the dirt.

They didn’t think that they were doing anything WRONG.

They almost have to know its wrong. But its legal and it pays the mortgage and kids braces. The new car they can’t afford just sitting in some grow op. They know its wrong and all of the pats on the back can’t change the fact of how most were raised. Most do know right from wrong when they steal or testify against someone. They have been psychologically intimidated, indoctrinated to justify the abuse for the greater good, but they can’t sleep with it. It will haunt them sooner or later. If they really don’t know its wrong with all of the information available. Should they really be driving a car or brandishing a firearm? Or putting their hand on the Bible and swearing to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help them God. Nice separation of church and state btw. Karma will getem but Karma is never on our time table so we probably won’t hear about it.

      Think about that.

The deliberations of the Constitutional Convention of 1787 were held in strict secrecy. Consequently, anxious citizens gathered outside Independence Hall when the proceedings ended in order to learn what had been produced behind closed doors. The answer was provided immediately. Public Service Announcement

It may be prudent at this juncture to fight for keeping marijuana illegal, as a schedule #1 narcotic with no medicinal value, highly addictive, a menace to society and a substance so vicious it is not found among atoms and molecules.

Remove Cannabis in all forms from the prying claws of Givernment and the profiteers monopolies, Fill the prisons with those drug worrying bottom-line dwellers kidnapping it and enslaving it as a tool. To rake in big bucks moralizing the citizens with hobgoblins, equally lacking atoms and molecules.

Let them stall, Catch 22² “marijuana” while society reaps the bennies of Cannabis. The worry warts can still spread their gossip about “marihuana the heathen devil weed”. With no reason to get involved with Cannabis’ many uses. Let the OiNkDeCePtion tell the politico’s and pro rehabilitationists for profits how to streamline their efforts by attacking the real problem, “marijuana”.

Let Cannabis be with the people reducing Givernments burden and taxes spent. Give local communities a means to provide sustenance for all. Dirt, sunshine and a little water. Not nearly as much as they say about “marijuana”. Cannabis grows in the desert and taste good in the dessert. Cannabis can replace clear cutting rain forests or blowing up mountain tops for coal to burn making steel Hemp can replace. Cannabis can replace the 90 million pounds of poisons sprayed over the Bible Belt antichoice cotton crops. Aborting babies via Monsanto.

“Marihuana” has been the true menace since its racist creation. Addictive to those needing a fix to spread the hysteria. Watching the fear consume neighborhoods and schools. The Glory of the Gore selling newspapers with large headlines. “Marihuana With Roots in HELL!” Not Cannabis. There lies the lies and confusion. Remove Cannabis from the CSA. Sabeteur SAM can safe us from “marijuana”.

No data available for Illinois. Figures. It doesn’t matter one lick what the majority of people in Illinois think anyway, it only matters what Democrat kingpin Michael Madigan and his liberal/progressive minions think. They don’t give a shit about anyone or anything other than staying in power.

Speaker of the House Michael Madigan for over 30 years and Chair of the Democrat Party, with his daughter as the Attorney General and highest legal authority in the state. Even when some of the idiot minions finally decide to give someone outside of the Illinois Democrat mafia a chance, its a complete dipshit Republican like Rauner. And the Democrat overlord thugs still have veto proof majorities in the House and Senate over Rauner anyway, so all he can do is throw some money around and say stupid shit.

What’s the deal with Wisconsin? They probably read the Chicago newspapers and are smarter than the liberal minions of Illinois to trust a mob boss like Michael Madigan with more than 30 years of power over their freedom. Trust the math, Wisconsin, you’re much better off with a Walker for a few years than with a Madigan for three fucking decades and counting.

Is a drug dog sniff a search? No, according to SCOTUS, resulting in even more innocent cannabis/drug possessors being locked in cages. Who argued that case? Lisa Madigan did. Guess who her father is. As much of a dickhead as Walker is, he doesn’t hold a candle to the evil that is the Madigan cartel of Illinois.

And there isn’t even one liberal/progressive with any juice in the entire state that will say a bad thing about Madigan. Minions is the perfect word to describe the idiots who keep voting for these Democrat monsters in IL. But hey, we might have some medical marijuana available to a couple thousand people (out of 13 million) 4 years after the temporary, crony capitalist program was set up and 1 year before it automatically expires.

Propaganda Alert: NIDA supported study says cigarette smoking and alcohol consumption is down, while marijuana smoking is up among teens, especially black teens! :

“…we were surprised to find the very clear message that kids are choosing marijuana over cigarettes.” — Stephanie Lanza, professor of biobehavioral health, and scientific director of The Methodology Center, Penn State.

Surprised? The researchers’ next study is to search for any correlations they can find showing an increase in teen marijuana use due to any link they can find to states where it’s legal. With cigarette and alcohol use down, the new research agenda will be hijacked by politics and decimated by reality. Given the known relative harms of the named substances, a personal preference for marijuana over other drugs would normally be considered good news, except in the US, where tyranny and repression is the objective of the drug war, not public health.

The Penn State study gives cops a further excuse to continue to pursue, roust, or stop-and-frisk black teenagers, while excluding white teenagers from the clutches of the law.

It’s expected the NIDA researchers will get a hearty “job-well-done” from prohibitionists for giving new support to active and institutionalized racial discrimination, and to funding the prison industrial complex. Penn State can be assured of receiving more NIDA funding next year.

    • Servetus says:

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren has formally requested an explanation from the DHHS, ONDCP, and DEA, demanding to know why the agencies have obstructed cannabis science. The respective alphabet agencies will blame Congress for mandating extremist prohibition laws and a culture of intolerance, even though the latitude exists among the alphabet agencies to make necessary changes to their own policies.

Congress will relay the blame back onto the agencies. The administrators of the agencies will resent being blamed for Congressional incompetence. They will retaliate by spilling their guts to the media about what they know of failed drug law enforcement policies and their administrators’ narcissistic and psychopathic tendencies. This, in a nutshell, is how governments collapse.

Meanwhile, researchers in Israel will continue to outscore the Americans on every new cannabis discovery to be had on the medical spectrum. The Israelis will acquire patents and marketing dominance in cannabis medical science, simply because they’re willing to do the taboo research on cannabinoids and bring the products to market.

Welcome to our next lesson in “How to Lie With Statistics” although today I’m suspect that we won’t be able to make Darrell Huff blush with envy.

A peculiar thing that I’ve noticed is that when the results of a published study results which can be construed as anywhere from not negative to positive vis a vis the effects of cannabis the prohibitionist parasites cough up a study which contradicts that study. I’ve never documented that this is true so it’s possible that my perception is because the event makes an impression in my brain while the times it doesn’t happen don’t. But it sure seems to happen a lot.

I can trace such events all the way back to 1992 when a study was published that showed that cannabis helped people living with AIDS. About a month or two later a study was published which claimed that cannabis consumption caused significant harm to a person’s immune system. Of course that meant it wasn’t any good for the AIDS patients. That study was widely cited leading to George Bush the 41st closing the Compassionate IND to new patients.

In 2006 Dr. Tashkin released the landmark study which showed that cannabis was almost certainly not a causal factor in smoking related disease. Shortly after that a “scientific” study done by a study from New Zealand sponsored “scientists” which said that it was a causal factor.

So today we’re looking at the freshly published study from Penn State that claims which claims that youth use of cannabis is rising. But it was just a few short days ago when we read the results of a contradictory study.

“Report: Marijuana use down; disapproval up among young teens”

      /snip/
The study, led by social work professor Christopher Salas-Wright and published in The American Journal of Drug and Alcohol Abuse, examined the perceptions and use of marijuana among youths in the United States between 2002 and 2013.

Changes were particularly marked among younger adolescents (ages 12-14), as study findings point to a 25 percent decline – from 6 percent in 2002 to 4.5 percent in 2013 – in the relative proportion of youths reporting marijuana use in the previous 12 months, and an increase from 74 percent to 79 percent reporting strong disapproval of marijuana use initiation.

“Our results may suggest that recent changes in public policy, including the decriminalization, medicalization and legalization of marijuana in cities and states across the country, have not resulted in more use or greater approval of marijuana use among younger adolescents,” Salas-Wright said.

So how are the Penn State researchers lying with statistics since the statistics which they proffer are accurate? The trick is in their choice of their starting point. Why the heck is 1993 significant to adolescents with either an abundance or lack of melatonin? If I apply Ockham’s Razor the most likely reason is because that was when the lowest percentage of them chose to enjoy cannabis. Regardless, sitting in plain sight is that the 1976 numbers are most assuredly higher for all cohorts in that year than currently.

Serious question: Why the heck do prohibitionists not understand that there are less youths using smoking tobacco than consume cannabis because certain policy changes to keep American children from using smoking tobacco has been smashing victory of public policy?

Prohibitionists! You can’t live with them and murder is illegal!! It’s just not fair!!!

6 Myths About Marijuana That Continue To Persist Even Though More Americans Want Legal Greens

    http://tinyurl.com/qjcjpn5

“”The tide seems to be turning in the national conversation about legalizing marijuana use. A Pew Research Center study of public opinion trends since 1969 showed that views on marijuana use have essentially flipped in the past three years.
No longer an issue favored by a fringe minority, for the first time since the 1960s, a whopping 53 percent of the country believes that marijuana should be made legal. As one might predict, the research showed that more millennials are in favor of legalization than those in older generations, but overall the findings hold across age, gender, and political divides.
But a change in opinion hasn’t changed persisting myths about legalizing marijuana, and there’s still plenty of misinformation about what would happen if we were to make weed legal.”” “snip”

    1) If You Legalize Weed, More Kids Will Get Addicted
False..leaving marijuana sold by street dealers instead of licensed outlets that check ID’s underwrites availability of marijuana to underage users.

    2) Weed Is More Dangerous Than Alcohol
False. Alcohol causes 88,000 deaths per year,,marijuana causes zero,,comparison over.

    3) Marijuana Is A Gateway Drug
False Over 90% of people use alcohol, tobacco or caffiene before they experiment with marijuana,,how do you pass over 2 or three other mind altering addictive drugs and claim the 3rd or 4th used is the gateway?

    4) More Weed Will Lead To More Crime
False When you remove marijuana from being a crime and establish a competitive instead of greed regulated market it removes today’s criminal activities surrounding marijuana.

    5) Marijuana Has No Use Beyond Recreation
False Unless you believe hippies snuck back 4,000 years in a time machine and inserted marijuana in ancient Chinese medical scrolls.

    6) Very Few Americans Want to Legalize Marijuana
False The polls report that a majority of Americans support a regulated market over the black market and the violence and corruption it causes.

  16. Servetus says:

University of South Carolina College of Pharmacology researcher Jill Turner has discovered a biomechanism offering resistance to substance addiction. It’s the mu-opioid receptor in the hippocampus, “…a protein in the human body that is affected by many different drugs, from nicotine to alcohol to heroin.” A small change in the chemical composition of the receptor creates a profound change in the person hosting it:

22-JUL-2015 — Among humans, there are two relatively common versions of the mu-opioid receptor that differ only by one amino acid, sometimes called the A variant and the G variant. In Caucasians, the G variant only makes up perhaps 5 percent to 15 percent of the population. Population studies are still relatively new, but some associations between individuals having the variant and their behavior are becoming clear, Turner says. People with the G variant of the protein can quit smoking more readily. They’re less susceptible to alcoholism. They’re less likely to become addicted to heroin and can kick the habit more readily. As children, they seem to be more resilient in the face of stressful situations, such as abuse by elders or bullying.

Turner is fascinated that such complex human behavior can be altered by just one amino acid. That protein difference arises from a singular difference in DNA: Organisms that have the G variant of the protein are said to have the G allele.

The science behind the research is called pharmacogenomics. Based on my own drug experimentation and use, I suspect I possess the G allele. I’ve never been addicted to anything. As for addiction science, it’s not just about Nora’s dopamine discovery anymore. Drug consumers should have the opportunity to discover their allele status before ingesting any of Mother Nature’s marvelous collection of synapse surprises.

Wow. I don’t know whether to laugh or cringe. And I can’t decide whether this is good or bad. It IS without a doubt an example of monumental cluelessness and a research fail of the type we are so familiar with here on the couch.
That said, The Lancet published a meta study of the prevalence of the use of a drug among schizophrenics. And they proceeded to do the predictable: they suggested causality.
No. It wasn’t cannabis. This time. No, this time it was tobacco. Good old Ciggies. Here it is for you enjoy, disparage and deride. http://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanpsy/article/PIIS2215-0366%2815%2900152-2/abstract

Those are the same people that did the cannabis-schizophrenia study that’s been so widely quoted. Ironically, in hindsight they’re now saying they should have controlled for cigarette smoking in their earlier cannabis study. Do’h!

    • Servetus says:

The same old arguments apply. More people smoke more cigarettes in Europe than in America, yet the schizophrenia rates are consistent, always with 1% exhibiting the disease(s), whether they’re American, European, or Inuit.

Cannabinoid-induced apoptosis in immune cells as a pathway to immunosuppression

Cannabinoids are a group of compounds present in Cannabis plant (Cannabis sativa L.). They mediate their physiological and behavioral effects by activating specific cannabinoid receptors. With the recent discovery of the cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2) and the endocannabinoid system, research in this field has expanded exponentially. Cannabinoids have been shown to act as potent immunosuppressive and anti-inflammatory agents and have been shown to mediate beneficial effects in a wide range of immune-mediated diseases such as multiple sclerosis, diabetes, septic shock, rheumatoid arthritis, and allergic asthma.

UK Police: We Will No Longer Bust Small-Time Marijuana Growers
While cops in the United States persist in their prohibitionary efforts—sometimes paralyzing and brutally murdering the average citizen over marijuana—police forces throughout northeast England have pulled out of the war on weed, at least for the most part. According to reports, cops are now only busting street hooligans engaged in large-scale black market operations—small timers are free to grow.

Well this one isn’t new news, it only applies to a handful of American workers, but it is a dictionary picture worthy example of bureaucracy run amok. Some may even think that it’s funny as heck after getting past the initial cognitive dissonance. I’m filing this one in the “from the sublime to beyond the patently absurd” category:

One of the first question that a lot of people who ponder the philosophy of cannabis law reform ask, “do we really want our airplane pilots high on dope when they’re flying an airplane?” While I’m hard pressed to say what kind of vehicle a pilot would be flying if it weren’t an airplane, it’s definitely a valid concern. I’m sure almost no one has any desire to see an airplane pilot high on “dope”, whatever that is. Fortunately the FAA has has a comprehensive naughty list of substances restricted or forbidden to pilots.

The FAA also requires that anyone who employs at least one pilot to have their pilots’ urine examined including surprise, random urine inspections. This includes pilots who are self employed.

    /snip/
Finally, the FAA inspector looked at my random drug testing program to make sure that everything was in place. I’m subject to the same drug testing requirements as United Airlines. I am the drug testing coordinator for our company, so I am responsible for scheduling drug tests and surprising employees when it is their turn to be tested. As it happens, I’m also the only “safety-sensitive employee” subject to drug testing, so basically I’m responsible for periodically surprising myself with a random drug test. As a supervisor, I need to take training so that I can recognize when an employee is on drugs. But I’m also the only employee, so really this is training so that I can figure out if I myself am on drugs. As an employee, I need to take a second training course so that I learn about all of the ways that my employer might surprise me with a random drug test and find out about drug use. But I’m also the employer so really I’m learning about how I might trap myself.

Have the prohibitionists disproved the old adage that there’s no such thing as a stupid question yet?

  23. Servetus says:

The drug war is threatening free speech, just as it threatens everything else.

The arch right wing US Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals has decided that just about anything motorists have in (or on) their cars can be considered evidence of drug trafficking, including rosaries, air fresheners, and DARE or pro-police bumper stickers. The case involves an Hispanic female and her husband who were harassed by Texas police who then forfeited the couple’s cash based on profiling techniques designed to snare the unwary.

Under the Fifth Circuit’s new restrictions on speech and free expression, having religious icons in the vicinity of one’s car is suspicion of a crime, an implied admission of guilt. Activated charcoal filters in a car’s ventilation system, filters that can deodorize internal and incoming air, are suspect, even though the filters make the speech-protected argument that says the community stinks. And a bumper sticker that says “FUCK THE DEA” is acceptable over that of a DARE sticker.

U.S. Supreme Court says No License Necessary To Drive Automobile On Public Highways/Streets
“The right of a citizen to travel upon the public highways and to transport his property thereon, by horsedrawn carriage, wagon, or automobile, is not a mere privilege which may be permitted or prohibited at will, but a common right which he has under his right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Under this constitutional guaranty one may, therefore, under normal conditions, travel at his inclination along the public highways or in public places, and while conducting himself in an orderly and decent manner, neither interfering with nor disturbing another’s rights, he will be protected, not only in his person, but in his safe conduct.”

Senate Committee Passes Crucial Marijuana Reform
A key Senate committee passed a bill today allowing the nation’s capital to establish regulated marijuana stores and let banks provide financial services to state-legalized marijuana dispensaries. These are just two of several marijuana reforms advancing in Congress. Meanwhile sentencing reform is gaining steam, and the U.S. is shifting towards treating drug use as a health issue instead of a criminal justice issue.

The most important thing to take away from a scant look at the map is….look at all that lovely green. Bound to make prohibs stream crimson tears.

  26. Servetus says:

Propaganda Alert: A new small sample study at Ann Arbor, MI, by addictionologist Carol Boyd, funded by the NIDA, indicates “that teens using marijuana for medical reasons are 10 times more likely to say they are hooked on marijuana than youth who get marijuana illegally ” which Boyd says is due to “teens who feel dependent on the drug will seek marijuana cards to ensure a reliable, legal source.”

But then Dr. Boyd sees the need to go total prohibitionist wacko, and says, “I think that medical marijuana laws are failed policy and that these data lend support to my position…More youth use medical marijuana that don’t have a card than that have a card.

What Dr. Boyd is trying to say is that youthful use of diverted, processed medical grade marijuana is a worse situation than their use of potentially contaminated, low-THC, Mexican ditch weed. What Dr. Boyd insinuates, but doesn’t say, is that her youth group is claiming dependence on marijuana as an excuse to continue using it, for instance, they “feel dependent ”, but maybe aren’t. To make such a claim outright might endanger Dr. Boyd’s future research funding.
