Hmmm…

So, Obama had to convince the other countries in the hemisphere that he knows what’s best for them when it comes to international policy related to drugs.

I’m guessing this wasn’t part of his strategy…

Basic irony, but I like it. It’ll do in lieu of actual progress.

(that second sentence was, of course, totally sarcastic.)

What do you expect from legalization of birds and bees?

Prostitution is another area where the Democrats and Republicans that own our government agree on the wrong “solution”, namely prohibition. Except Reno, anyway. Do you REALLY want to reduce the trafficking of underage ladies forced into sex trade slavery? Give consenting, adult women the freedom to choose for themselves with regulatory standards and we will greatly reduce human trafficking of young ladies.

LOCK UP OBAMA! Those are his own rules, not mine.

    Caught in the clap trap.

I’m wondering if this stupid scandal isn’t taking away from reporting on the discussion about drugs, which seems, in the context of the conference, a subset of the larger issue in the US-Canada relationship with the rest of the Americas–the US arrogance of insisting it’s an alliance of equal players while machinating to get its way. The Cuba issue falls under this heading, too. But if there’s anything that Latin American cultures know only too well, it’s the tensions of promoting equality as a value within a system deeply based on hierarchy.

There’s a part of me that relishes any embarrassment Obama gets but this is probably overshadowing the summit and discussion of drug “market alternatives.”

        Yep.

I was at my Dad’s place tonight and he watches the ABC station (I never watch TV news). They did a piece about the secret service and never mentioned even why Obama was in Caragena, let alone the drug war issues.

        • darkcycle says:

Yeah, as far as the media were concerned, those Secret Service agents were there on vacation. The initial piece I saw on local news completely omitted ANY mention of Obushma and his trip.

Alcohol is fine, though. It’s the BAD drugs that must be fought with extreme violence.
