Just five years ago or so, I was looking around the Campuses I and my wife work on, and thinking “We’re fucked”. I didn’t see alot of activism, or even awareness in the students. There was the “Dump Bush” cohort and that was about it.
All of a sudden, it began to change. Now the students I encounter are as well informed as I am and activism seems to be coming back into style.
If you ask me, the catalyst was the economy and in particular, cuts in the budgets of the State University system. Seems that American kids can fight after all, when it’s their own futures on the line.
These days, I would be surprised if there wasn’t a drug policy reform group on a major college/university campus.
