Trudeau calls for legalization of pot

At the end of his five-day B.C. tour, federal Liberal leader Justin Trudeau spoke out about a well-worn topic in the province: marijuana legislation. Following unprompted remarks in Kelowna Wednesday on the legalization of marijuana, Trudeau told supporters and volunteers on Thursday in Vancouver his thinking had “evolved” when it comes to pot laws.

Could it be that it’s finally reaching the point where it can be politically advantageous to be opposed to criminalization (and that politicians are realizing it)?

He also said:

“Marijuana is not a health food supplement. It’s not great for you. But it’s certainly – as many studies have shown – not worse for you than cigarettes or alcohol.”

Um, well, actually… marijuana is a health food supplement. Parts of the plant have extraordinarily beneficial nutritional value.

This is a carefully-calculated political move designed to sharply contrast the new Liberal leader’s position from the ruling Conservatives, who have actually made penalties for marijuana harsher (mandatory minimum one-year sentence for 6 plants or more!).

    I hope it works.

Trudeau is not going to jump in and claim all the attributes of cannabis,,it makes our claims seem more unbelievable than some of the prohib’s claims of harms because the plant is the most therapeutic plant known to man at this time,,as it was in 1937,,and you can grow it in your yard. It takes no added ingredients, requires no processing or distillation and performs it’s medical and nutritional wonders without any help from man,,no wonder it is banned,,way too much independence and self help in a plant like that.

This is a link to an opinion column in today’s Hamilton Spectator with a political cartoon showing Trudeau with his grow confronting Thomas Mulcair, leader of the NDP who is on record as supporting decriminalization only.
    Hehr Harper is the scarecrow.
Trudeau’s statement has caused quite a stir with the vast majority supporting his position.

Good to see Canada does hereditary rulers, just like Britain and the US (Bushes, Clintons, Kennedys) although his mum is a little more adventurous than the queen. Still, if you are going to fuck a rolling stone, ronnie wood doesn’t seem to me to be the top choice.

Last bag I had with seeds was before the early 90’s when I found out they were nutritional. Since then I’ve helped several patients stay off of antibiotics adding the hemp oil to a smoothie. All they ever did before that was burn little holes in my shirts after popping in the joint. Now I hear they go for $60 a dozen.

  7. Ned says:

Oy they still don’t get it that IT DOESN’T MATTER EXACTLY how bad or good for you it is. What matters is that prohibitions net harms exceed the harms of use, no mater what scale. Legal pot, nobody dies, illegal pot, people die, pure and simple. That is the bottom line for legality. It is absolutely less bad than illegality when it comes to “public health and safety”.
