If you’re in the area of Illinois State University today, stop by the quad (or Bowling and billiards center if weather is bad) from 4-6 pm for 420 Solidarity: Hempfest sponsored by Young Americans for Liberty and SSDP.

I’ll be speaking around 4:30 pm, just after judging a cigarette rolling contest.

This is an open 420 thread.

4/20: International Day of Cannabis Freedom
By Jeremiah Vandermeer, Cannabis Culture – Monday, April 18 2011

April 20 is the international day of cannabis freedom: a day of global celebration, a show of appreciation for a truly amazing and versatile plant, and an impressive display of solidarity by an oppressed but resilient culture. The War on Marijuana rages across the planet. Every day brings new stories of abuses of the rights of citizens, expansions of the prisons system, bloody turmoil in Mexico, threats and intimidation against medical marijuana users in the United States and Canada, and even executions of non-violent citizens for involvement with marijuana and other drugs. full story

This year is sure to see larger chronic-smoking crowds than ever, and CC wants to publish photos and videos of the 4/20 gathering in your city. Send links or content to jeremiah@cannabisculture.com

      It Ain’t Fair, John Sinclair

      UCSC alumnus
by Becky Johnson Saturday Apr 16th, 2011

      …is likely to be disruptive????

The ONLY disruption this event has EVER CAUSED
has come from UCSC officials who restrict access to
campus to those who wish to attend business there.

The event itself—a peaceful, public assembly in civil disobedience of a law against cannabis–has never been disruptive of any sanctioned campus activity.

Bring back parking! Bring back bus access!
Stop this pre-emptive attack on peaceable assembly by our best and our brightest!!

Politicos and Weed: A Tortured Love Story
Today is 4/20, otherwise known as the stoner’s answer to Christmas. Yes, it’s the day when marijuana enthusiasts joyfully puff and pass as they join in hazy celebration of the sticky green. The Know Nothing prohibitionist is once again befuddled, and asks, “Hey, has anyone seen the day? My calendar is missing the 20th of April.”

The potheads respond, “too bad. We stole today fair and square, it’s our property now and we’re not giving it back.”
