Sgt. Jim Gerhardt spreads ignorance

Colorado police officers warns of marijunana dangers [sic]

Wow. This guy travelled all the way to Iowa just to give them a combination of outright lies and dramatic misstatements.

A Denver-area police officer cautioned Siouxlanders Friday not to follow down the path of his own state on marijuana. […]

“If you legalize it, then you’re done,” Gerhardt said at a news conference Friday. “There is going to be no way to contain it.”

In the last four years, there has been a 92-percent increase in marijuana-related fatal car accidents in the state, according to data from the Rocky Mountain High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Program, a component of the National Drug Control Strategy. Overall, fatal car accidents rose by 8 percent, Gerhardt said.

Joining him with the false fear mongering was Peter Komendowski, president of the Partnership for a Drug-Free Iowa:

Komendowski said parents and their children should be educated on health risks that might come with marijuana so they are prepared.

“If we have to wait for a test to see if they’re really impaired, or if we have to go to do the morgue, it’s too late,” he said.

It boggles my mind how many people just want to have their biases confirmed. It would have been very helpful to have had the real facts and countering opinions included so people could come to an informed, enlightened opinion. As it is, most attendees will merely be even more misinformed as well as more adamant.

Sgt. Gerhardt travels all around the midwest and plains states on his “fear the reefer tour”. He was recently in Nebraska at the capitol at the invitation of the prohibitionist Attorney General who is suing Colorado over marijuana sales.
Gerhardt and his group are attempting to roll back all legal marijuana laws in his home state of Colorado.
He has turned his little reefer madness presentations into a nice little cottage industry for himself. No doubt he is handsomeley paid for his presentations.

I’ve been following Sgt. Gephardt around in comments columns under stories about his fairy tales and hysterical rhetoric. I’m just posting boilerplate excerpts from a September 9, 2015 interview with Governor Hickenlooper. I’ve put Sgt Gephardt into the “never let the facts get in the way of disseminating an effective piece of hysterical rhetoric” category.

      September 9, 2015:
Governor John Hickenlooper, founder of a beer brewery and a former mayor of Denver, opposed the historic 2012 measure that legalized pot for adults 21 and older. But in the interview published on Wednesday in Westword, he says legalization hasn’t been so bad, after all.

      /snip/
“If I’d had a magic wand the day after, I probably would have reversed the vote. Now I look at how far we’ve come, and I think there’s a real possibility that we’ll have a system that works… if you eliminate the black market, make it harder for kids to get marijuana. We can put more money into education for kids,” he says. “The sky isn’t falling. People thought it was the end of civilization as they know it. It wasn’t: The sky is mostly still up there with the stars and the clouds.
      /snip/

Twenty-one months after the roll out of recreational-marijuana stores in Colorado, the one thing Hickenlooper wants everyone in or out of Colorado to know about ending marijuana prohibition is: “Most people who were not smoking marijuana before it was legalized still don’t.”

Sometimes they make it so easy that it makes me wonder how the heck they managed to get control in the first place.

October 21, 1967, 50,000 demonstrators in Washington, D.C. protested the war machine by threatening to levitate the Pentagon. Sgt. Jim Gerhardt’s two-hour program at the Long Line Family Rec Center brought in “more than 200 people.” Guessing which group was more successful in getting their message out, I’d vote for the levitators. Gerhardt needs more magic in his act.

… and it was consistent every year after. Until I believe 1971, when I attended the media said 35,000. Estimated head counts put it at 50,000. I don’t remember many that large after that. What it did besides show there really was an opposition. Was to inform the soccer moms and general population. We made the headlines, but the war didn’t stop until everyday people started seeing the light. Many parallels to today reforming Ganja laws. It remains the best deal I ever got on pot. From Indiana of all places. 4 finger lids for $12. Beach Boys on stage. Fuck Ma Bell and Free Angela Davis!

Anything to do with any name Partnership for a Drug Free, you can bet the Semblers are involved

      “Partnership for a Drug-Free Iowa” ?

      I smell Sembler $$$

    • peter says:

      Who are the Semblers?

      • Mr_Alex says:

Long story short, i term the Semblers for Melvin and Betty Sembler who ran that abusive rehab known as Straight Inc niw the Drug Free America Foundation, over 50,000 children were abused at their rehab, by the early 1999s Betty and Melvin Sembler changed the name if Straight Inc to the Drug Free America Foundation there are still Straight Inc survivors living and who have committed suicide, Betty and Melvin Sembler is the inspiration of the Prohibitionists

  6. primus says:

Too bad we couldn’t get a list of his upcoming events and go in there ahead of him and salt the well.

    • Servetus says:

He’s probably covered. Half his audience are likely federal anti-domestic-terrorist agents, secretly deposited there to make sure he doesn’t flake out so they need to take him into custody.

  7. primus says:

Salting the well is basically what Russ Belville did to Kev-Kev recently. It seemed to work quite well.

  8. Mr_Alex says:

Anyone who wants to read about how involved is the Drug Free America Foundation involved with the government on court decisions, Wes Fager has a article on this, don’t be surprised if Betty and Melvin Sembler are behind the policies at Project SAM:

    http://thestraights.net/reports/dfaf-and-drug-policy.htm

PURPOSE OF THIS STUDY. The purpose of this study is to determine the exact influence that Straight, Inc., its alter ego Straight Foundation, Inc now calling itself the Drug Free America Foundation, Inc., Mel and Betty Sembler–Straight founders, Robert DuPont–Straight’s consultant, and other related organizations and individuals have had on national and on international drug policy. This report will reveal associations and relationships between Straight entities and individuals, and establishment drug policy entities and individuals which can be used to educate the public and to educate the establishment to the influence of Straight on national and international drug policy. We hope to break those bonds or at least to weaken those partnerships by exposure through the printed and electronic media, through conferences and through organized protests and pickets.

    Another surprising bit

Melvin Sembler tried to get Dr Lester Grinspoon’s licence revoked in 2002

Speaking as a long time Colorado resident I can categoricaly charge Officer Gephardt with out and out lying. All one has to do is go to the CDOT(CO Dept of Transportation) web page and check out the traffic death statistics right up through Oct 2015. It is quickly apparent that Colorado has been actually reducing traffic fatalities significantly since the high mark of 743 in 2002. Interesting to note that the lowest fatality counts start in 2009, right after Colorado started to allow mmj dispensaries and the number of people with mmj licenses started to skyrocket. While the fatality count (rate) in 2015 is slightly higher than 2014 the overall trend is has been reduction since 2003. Also, these numbers do not reflect the significant population growth occuring since passage of A64 in 2012. I would wager Officer Gephardt’s badge (if I could be so lucky) that on a per capita basis, as a percentage of legal drivers on the road our reductions are even more significant. We have to so much more to stop the lies and nonsense that passes for legal knowledge these days. Shame on Officer Gephardt!

☛ Relax Your Muscles as Much as Possible’
What’s life like in our prisons for those marijuana convicts? Let’s steel our nerves and go visit the Web site, where the Los Angeles outfit “Stop Prisoner Rape” has posted the little plain-talking handbill it has prepared for young men entering our prison system, titled “For Prisoners: Advice on Avoiding HIV/AIDS.”

The Lord… hath sent me to bind up the broken hearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives and the opening
of the prison to them that are bound.
    (Isaiah 61:1)

    “Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man;
that which cometh out of the mouth defileth a man.”

☛ The Drug Czar is Required by Law to Lie dwr
Most people know that the “drug czar” — the director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) — is an advocate for the government position regarding the drug war. But not everyone knows that he and his office are mandated to tell lies as part of their Congressional authorization.

“shall not bear false witness” about people who use cannabis, Nor judge them because that judgement is reserved to the Lord. The Lord hates those who speak lies and sow discord among brethern.

    ☛ Ganja & the Bible
Despite common knowledge and widespread scientific support, the federal government has for nearly 45 years kept cannabis in schedule 1 as a deliberate way to deny patients access to medical marijuana. This includes people suffering from asthma, cancer, migraine headache, chronic pain, spasticity, glaucoma, arthritis, and provides relief for many other conditions. As a result, people at various locations across the USA have had to risk and suffer years in prison for providing medical marijuana to patients as an act of compassion and personal conscience. What would Jesus do? He chose to break the law in order to heal the sick.

And I will raise up for them a plant of renown,
and they shall be no more consumed with hunger in the land,
neither bear the shame of the heathen any more.

Hanging by a thread. No matter how many ways you spell nmdtf, it still stinks. Jim Gerhardt is just doing his job, he may be the last who believes in it. Considering the fact that the North Metro whatever, is based out of the Thornton police department says it all. Well known for it’s corruption, throughout the last decade. Gerhardt is just too damn proud to admit defeat. I knew I would see the day when the Thornton P.D. would finally reap some Marijuana money. Good for you, good for the citizens financing these wasted hours.
