A good court ruling in California

Chief justice nominee blocks school drug tests

In a ruling by California’s chief justice nominee, a state appeals court has barred a school district from drug testing all students in extracurricular activities such as choir, the school band and Future Farmers of America. […]

the Third District Court of Appeal in Sacramento said Thursday that the California Constitution’s guarantee of privacy is more protective of individual rights than the U.S. Constitution and may prohibit the drug screening. […]

“The district has not shown a specialized need to target students participating in (the activities) for drug and alcohol testing,” Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye said in the 3-0 ruling.

She said there was no evidence of a drug problem among students in programs like choir and Future Farmers of America, and little or no evidence that testing them would serve any useful purpose.

Nice to see a little sanity out there.

[Thanks, Tom]

Thank god. The drug testing of America youth, and employees is one of the biggest scams on earth ATM. From a piece i read the other day out of all candidates screened only 4% failed. So it seems this drug problem america is not nearly as bad as advertised.

Good, time to stop the loss of liberties. Seems kids are an easy target when it comes to that.

Drug tests at the front door before you can leave. Drug test the children before they can enter the school. Drugs are evil and satanic.

Keith Royal is the Nevada County sheriff. And he’s trying to make a difference.

    @ Ripmeupacuppa

Sheriff Keith Royal really does make a difference.

Where would our future revolutionaries be coming from were someone like Sheriff Royal not giving them a taste of Big Brother while they’re young?

What better type of totalitarian program besides random drug testing could get school kids to really hate their schools and governments for subjecting them to the humiliation of a physically intrusive search based on undeserved suspicion?

Where would we be today were it not for the Keith Royals of the world who brand the little beggars as criminals today so they can never achieve the real-world criminal careers potentially waiting for them in Congress or the White House tomorrow?
