I’m guessing that not everybody was quite clear on the plan…
Members of the Interstate Interdiction Unit pulled over a tractor trailer on Feb. 10 that contained 1,700 pounds of marijuana, according to a Memphis Police Department travel memo obtained under Tennessee’s public records law.
Drug Enforcement Administration officials asked that the load be delivered to its destination in Louisville while officers trailed the shipment. MPD officers and two Shelby County sheriff’s deputies accompanied the load, according to the memo.
OK, I see where they’re going with this. Their idea is apparently to let the shipment continue under close guard and then try to arrest the people who receive it.
So I guess the way this would go down is that they’d deliver the truck, keep an eye on it, and when the bad guys arrived to take over the shipment, they’d move in and nab them.
Let’s see how it went…

Soon after, several vehicles pulled up, left and then came back. They stayed several hours and then left. When officials later checked the tractor trailer, the drugs were gone.

Yeah, um, no, I don’t think that’s the way the plan was supposed to go…

“DEA is conducting an investigation into drug trafficking, and I can’t comment any further than that,” said Keith Brown, resident agent-in-charge of the Memphis DEA office.
Tom Gorman, assistant special agent-in-charge of the Louisville district office of DEA, also had no comment. […]
Harvey Kennedy, chief administrative officer for the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, said he has no records related to the case. Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Shular referred calls to the local office of the DEA.
Memphis Police Director Larry Godwin said he didn’t think it was appropriate to comment on an ongoing DEA investigation and referred questions to the local federal office.
Well, it looks like they got Plan B down perfect: No Comment.
wow. so much for taking drugs off the streets. This incident can only mean one thing. They need bigger budgets to do their job.

I wonder what it feels like to receive a 1700 lb shipment, then later read in the paper that it was a ‘controlled’ delivery. Somebody had a big credit in their karma account.
No drugs here, so we know it wasn’t diverted to British Columbia. Have not smelled a whiff in months. Hoots and hollers of happiness have apparently been made extinct, in my neighborhood.
The cops are going to have to try harder to justify their salary. One good thing about the economic collapse of the banana republic of amerika is the increased irrelevancy of the police. They don’t even come anymore when called even if we put some donuts out. Imagine how heartbroken we are that the armed civil servant note taker judges bitch boys don’t care about us (sniffle).
They’ll find another one. No matter.
They should be forced to charge themselves with delivery of a controlled substance…
Sounds like an inside job to me. Has anyone drug screened the cops since they passed their employment screen? Do any of the cops drive a new Mercedes to work now? Do they have any extra?
It DOES sound like an inside job. They probably intercepted a shipment meant for the CIA, then had to justify it to the media who were radio monitoring the situation as it happened.
Humm something here dont smell right…better give these cops,DEA, and maybe CIA drug tests. Did their budgets get cut recently? Maybe they thought they would make up for it?
When you tagged this with “Keystone Kops” and mentioned “observed the trailer,” I immediately thought of the KK character that could roll his eyes in opposite directions. LOL
And you’re right. Say “No Comment” enough times and it’ll go away. That’s an unfortunate outcome of the non-commenters. I guess the next question would be one that they understand, “What have you got to hide?”
This operation smells of pork. I can’t wait for the rest of this story.
Wait and see, and 1,700 lbs. will turn up again. There will be smiles all around, and press conferences, and awards ceremonies, and (yes) medals. The horn-blowing will be loud and endless.
Too bad it won’t be the same 1,700 lbs. Just another 1,700 lbs. that was laying around the DEA warehouse.

Really do hope the cops screwed up big time and the cannabis is safe and soon to be distributed. Then again, Prohibition supports the cartels so it’s a catch-22.

Did you ever hear of the story about 3years back where people were finding 20lb. blocks of weed and coke in Home Depot sink and vanities on the east coast. One guy actually returned the stuff and called the police. They didn’t do an IQ check on him. The common thread was a distribution center in Texas. Some poor schlep probably ended up killed over that bungle.

When your a juror , the government and the court has come before you to ask PERMISSION from you to enforce a law . If you feel the law is to harsh or unconstitutional , you can say “NOT GUILTY†without punishment. Judges and court prosecuters will make it seem as if you have to agre to the laws, you dont . They cant dictate to you what is or isnt law , your there to judge the law , the defendant , the court and yes , the government. Juries are there to protect US , the citizens from harsh and / or unjust laws and over zealous courts and judges. Without juries there would be tyranny. So please people , exercise your duty. You as a juror have more power at that time than the judge,procecuters and yes …the president of the USA…and you CANNOT BE COHERSTED OR PUNISHED FOR A NOT GUILTY VOTE !
