Leave those kids alone

Regardless of what you think of this study about spanking leading to drug abuse later in life, if you’re writing for the Drug Free America Foundation (DFAF), you probably shouldn’t be going on record as being in favor of hitting children.

Too many people still remember Straight, Inc., and the horrific systematic abuses of young people, and also remember the direct connection between that organization and DFAF through Mel and Betty Sembler.

My older brother became a victim of Straight, Inc. after our parents caught him smoking a joint. Lots of painful memories from visiting him there. Even as a small child merely visiting it was obvious to me something terrible was going on at that place… always wondered why people like our parents couldn’t see it. After he got out he fell into even worse drug abuse and violent crime for several years.

Ouch. Spankings aside, that hurts just to read it:

“If it were true, more than 75% of my generation would be a total mess….”

Who says 75% of DFAF’s generation is a total mess? Shame on them. Prohibitionists are a 100% total mess.

This is really a poorly considered admission on the part of the DFAF. Oppressive child rearing is the key question in psych tests that distinguishes authoritarians from real humans. The DFAF statement favors a cultural aberration leading to authoritarian child abuse – one that says much about the prohibitionist approach to drug use.

It’s time to send the real child abusers to prison. Bust the DFAF.
